Optimising lipid utilization in current fish feed formulation

05/16/2019

Reducing the levels of marine ingredients in aquafeeds may result in a reduction of essential lipid nutrients, including n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) and cholesterol. A deficiency of these nutrients negatively affects growth and feed conversion efficiencies. Furthermore, it is well known that the increasing inclusion of plant ingredients compromises the may induce gut health issues in carnivorous fish, ultimately affecting lipid absorption and utilization.

The dietary inclusion of digestive enhancers such as AQUALYSO® and LIPOGEST®, based on lysophospholipids and bile salts respectively, can be used as strategy to meet requirements and optimize lipid digestion and utilization. Least-cost formulation supports the use of digestibility enhancers and their benefits have been scientifically validated in many different species.
