Dr. Pierre Cozannet from Adisseo’s enzyme research team, presented our latest research during the French congress JRP.
This new study investigated the effect of arabinoxylan content on feed digestibility with and without enzyme, in fattening pigs. The experimental design was based on 6 treatments consisting in 3 arabinoxylan levels and 2 levels of enzyme (with and without Rovabio® Advance). Fecal and ileal digestibility were analyzed.
This research showed that 10 g of arabinoxylan per kg of feed negatively impacted fecal digestibility by 1 point, and ileal digestibility by 0.6 point. The enzyme supplementation allowed improving fecal and ileal digestibility. The enzyme efficacy was correlated to arabinoxylan content.
Dr. Pierre Cozannet commented: “This research confirms that arabinoxylans constitute an antinutritional factor in swine as in poultry. The enzyme potential is multiplied by 5 when used in diets containing high levels of arabinoxylans. This work opens new perspectives for a better use of enzymes in swine.”
In addition, the study demonstrated an improvement of amino acid digestibility with the use of enzymes (+5% in average, P < 0.001), confirming an economic interest when proper reformulation is employed.
