IMPORTANCE OF OXIDATIVE STRESS IN AQUACULTURE PRODUCTION AND NUTRITIONAL SOLUTIONS (Session in English)
Aquaculture production nowadays implies conditions that are sub-optimal to the physiological condition of the fish and shrimp. High-stocking densities, poor water quality or fluctuations in water temperature lead to an excessive production of pro-oxidant molecules that can surpass the capacity of the antioxidant mechanisms of the animal. This session will cover how different production factors induce oxidative stress and some of the nutritional strategies that can help fish to battle oxidative deterioration.

La producción acuícola conlleva condiciones que son subóptimas a las condiciones fisiológicas de peces y camarones. Altas densidades, baja calidad del agua y fluctuaciones en la temperatura del agua inducen una producción en exceso de moléculas pro-oxidantes que sobrepasa la capacidad antioxidante del animal. Esta sesión cubrirá el este tema explicando como diferentes factores de producción inducen estrés oxidativo y como algunas estrategias nutricionales pueden ayudar a los animales a lidiar con esa deterioración oxidativa.
