Aging is a time-related deterioration of physiological functions. Applying appropriate nutritional solutions would help laying hens to postpone the negative effects of the aging process. This will result in healthier and more productive laying hens. In this scenario, the use of Hydroxy Methionine as a source of added methionine precursor to laying hens diets guarantees production performance and egg quality.
The laying hen’s production cycle often ended when they reached almost the 70th weeks of age, due to declining productivity and eggshell quality, resulting in the underutilization of genetic potential of modern layer breeds. Simultaneously, the poultry industry faces the challenge of reducing its carbon footprint, improving animal welfare, and maintaining farmer profitability. Extending laying persistency may partially address these issues by enhancing the sustainability of egg production, spreading investment costs, and boosting farm profitability. There isn’t a single solution, but a series of actions need to be implemented to allow the extension of the laying phase of hens, by maintaining an optimal metabolic and physiological status. Good nutritional practice can be one of these solutions.
