Feed intake is a major driver of overall growth performance. However, low water temperature downregulates fish metabolism, including the process of nutrient digestion and utilization, and consequently the desire to ingest feed.
Optimal growing temperatures for tilapia are in the range of 27-30°C. In some major Tilapia producing countries, temperatures can drop significantly during pre-winter and winter periods (down to 15°C), resulting in reduced intake and even fasting and high mortality. It is therefore important to ‘boost’ fish metabolism and feed intake of the fish during the colder periods to minimize mortalities.
Adisseo has tested nutritional strategies based on digestive and metabolic enhancers aiming to compensate the downregulating effects of low temperature and promote feed intake and growth of tilapia.

Aquafeed formulations have changed dramatically during the past years as a result of the market demand for more sustainable as well as cost-efficient feed. Global shortage of fish meal and fish oil is driving aquafeed formulation in carnivorous species. Nutritionists explore formulations with lower nutrient specifications and/or using cheaper ingredients without impacting performance.
Adisseo has developed a range of functional feed additives to enhance digestive and metabolic processes, tailored to the digestive physiology and nutritional requirements of each species.
Benefits:
Our highly innovative range of digestive/metabolic enhancers offers nutritionists for fish and shrimp
