Amino Acid Balancing of French Dairy Ration Reduces Carbon Footprint

Together with Adisseo, Blonk performed an ISO reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study to calculate the environmental impact of an amino acid balanced reformulation of dairy cow diets. The LCA is based on an in vivo trial done in Brittany (France) in 2019 to evaluate the potential effect of amino acid balancing with rumen protected methionine (Smartamine® M) on milk performance, animal health and reproduction.

The Adisseo amino acid reformulation has specific zootechnical effects that have been reflected and translated into LCI (Life Cycle Inventory) parameters. These zootechnical improvements were estimated via a meta-analysis done with AgroParisTech and INRA (Bahloul & Loncke, 2020) and derived from the results obtained in the vivo trial mentioned previously

The objective of this LCA, subsequently ISO-reviewed by a third party, was to numerically quantify the improvement in the sustainability of dairy production thanks to AA balancing.
