EHP is causing significant disruptions on shrimp farms in Southeast Asia. This disease severely slows shrimp growth, with farms experiencing an average loss of 20-30% of their profit margin due to high FCR and size variations. Even more concerning, EHP weakens the shrimp’s immune system and increases susceptibility to secondary infections such as white feces syndrome, leading to high mortality rates and further economic losses.
In response to this crisis, Adisseo launched a series of road trip seminars in East Indonesia, an area deeply affected by EHP outbreaks. Dr. I-Tung Chen, R&D Project Manager of Aquaculture Health, and Martha Mamora, Area Manager Aquaculture for Indonesia, led these seminars and provided a comprehensive overview of EHP’s impact on shrimp farms. Drawing on laboratory research and field experiences, Adisseo’s team shared knowledge on the parasite’s pathogenesis as well as on strategies to reduce the severity of infection and improve farmers’ profitability. One key approach involves preventive measures via feed whereby health promoting additives are introduced early to stave off disease outbreaks, followed by improved pond management to reduce the risk of infection, offering farmers a better return on investment.
The seminar series also provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences and address concerns related to EHP management.
