Optimizing Cow Health and Performance via Amino Acid-Driven Cellular Pathways

Over the last two decades, we have learned that the immune system and metabolism are very interconnected and can be influenced by nutrients, such as the amino acid (AA) methionine. One of the major regulators of immunometabolism via nutrition is the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), which is sensitive to nutrients such as AA. Thus, by using nutritional strategies, such as AA balancing, we can harness the power of immunometabolism to enhance immune health and response of dairy cattle to stressors.

In this webinar with Dr. Johan Osorio (Assistant Professor at Department of Dairy Science, Virginia Tech), we will take a deep dive into:

  • The functional roles of methionine beyond protein synthesis
  • Adequate methionine to improve performance and immune response via mTOR pathway during subclinical mastitis
  • Glutathione metabolism and transition cow biology
  • Potential benefits of glutathione-assisted lactation performance in dairy cows
