At Adisseo, we believe that meaningful progress in animal production can only be achieved through bold science and strong collaboration. This conviction lies at the core of the Adisseo Research Grant (ARG), a €1 million global initiative designed to accelerate transformative research in animal nutrition, environmental stewardship, and One Health.
Launched in 2018 and now in its third edition, the ARG goes beyond financial support. It acts as a catalyst for cooperation between academia and industry, helping visionary researchers turn innovative ideas into practical solutions. We are proud to empower international teams who share our commitment to building a more sustainable, efficient, and responsible livestock sector.
In 2025, the grant focused on swine nutrition, and three outstanding research projects were selected for their scientific excellence, practical relevance, and potential to deliver long-term impact. We are honored to introduce the three laureates of the Adisseo Research Grant 2025.
Kick-off of the projects: Let’s go!
Advancing Precision Feeding for Gestating Sows – October 13th 2025
Project Lead: Dr. Jay Johnson, University of Missouri (USA)
Consortium: Amy Petry, Univ. Missouri, USA ; Luiz Brito, Purdue Univ, USA ; Jeremy Cottrell, Univ. Melbourne, Australia ; Renata Veroneze, Univ. Federal de Vicosa, Brazil ; Yijian Huang, Smithfield Premium, USA ; Trey Kellner, AMVC Nutritional, USA ; Justin Holl, Pig Improvement Company, USA
Adisseo participants: Estelle Devillard, Jessika Consuegra, Peter Loibl, Mark Giesemann
This ambitious initiative aims to redefine feeding strategies for gestating sows under heat stress by defining advanced modeling tools. By tailoring nutrient supply to individual needs, the project seeks to increase efficiency, improve welfare while significantly reducing environmental impact, a perfect example of how precision nutrition can benefit producers and the planet.

Understanding Piglets Appetite to Improve Welfare and Performance – October 3rd 2025
Project Lead: Prof. Nadia Everaert, KU Leuven (Belgium)
Consortium: Paolo Trevisi, UNIBO, Italy ; Sam Millet, ILVO, Belgium
Adisseo participants: Estelle Devillard, Jessika Consuegra, Simon Eskinazi
The FEAST-PIG project explores the biological mechanisms that drive appetite in piglets, aiming to deepen our understanding of feeding behavior. By identifying the physiological signals that regulate intake, this research could pave the way for innovative nutritional strategies that enhance productivity while supporting animal welfare and ensuring long-term sustainability across the entire value chain.

Smarter Protein Nutrition Through Real-Time Monitoring – October 2nd 2025
Project Lead: Prof. Jeroen Degroote, Ghent University (Belgium)
Consortium: Giuseppe Bee et Marion Girard, Agroscope, Switzerland
Adisseo participants: Estelle Devillard, Jessika Consuegra, Simon Eskinazi, Tom Meyns
This forward-thinking project focuses on developing a real-time monitoring system for protein efficiency in weaned piglets. By continuously tracking individual responses, the system will enable more precise protein management, helping to reduce overfeeding, improve feed conversion, and minimize nitrogen emissions. These are critical levers for achieving both economic and environmental sustainability.

Looking Ahead: Collaborations as a Catalyst of Impact
We extend our warmest congratulations to all laureates and partner institutions involved in the 2025 edition of the Adisseo Research Grant. Their dedication to science-driven progress truly reflects the spirit of the program.
As these projects started running, we look forward to sharing their advancements with the industry. When leading minds come together, innovation turns into action, and action into lasting change.
Together, we are shaping the future of sustainable animal production.
