Metric to evaluate feed efficiency

In modern poultry production, feed costs making up approximately 70% of live bird production expenses, even a small improvement in the feed conversion can translate into significant savings and profitability.

The most used metric is Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR): This is the ratio of feed intake to body weight gain or other products such as eggs, over a specific period. A lower FCR indicates better feed efficiency.

Importance of Feed Efficiency in Poultry Production

Economic Significance:

Efficient feed conversion means that less feed is required to produce the same amount of poultry products (meat or eggs), making the operation more cost-effective

Environmental Sustainability:

Better feed efficiency reduces the amount of feed needed, which in turn decreases the environmental footprint of poultry production. This includes lower emissions of greenhouse gases and reduced waste production.

Animal Health and Welfare:

Efficient feed utilization supports better overall health and growth of the birds. Proper nutrition and efficient feed conversion contribute to a stronger immune system, reducing the risk of diseases and mortality.

Our 3-steps approach: Monitor, Manage, Maximize

In poultry production, optimizing feed efficiency is essential for improving profitability, performance and sustainability. As feed costs account for a significant portion of production expenses, nutritionists must focus on extracting the maximum value from every ingredient while ensuring balanced diets that support bird health.

Adisseo’s data-driven approach supports precise formulation strategies, reducing costs and environmental impact without compromising performance. In this article, we outline the Monitor, Manage, Maximize approach to improve feed efficiency, enhance nutrient utilization and ensure optimal bird productivity.
