Understanding sows’ reproductive performance management

Optimizing reproductive performance is a critical factor in swine farming, directly influencing productivity and farm efficiency. To achieve this, genetic improvements have focused on enhancing sow prolificacy, leading to larger litters. These performance advancements have come with an increase of nutritional needs and higher sensitivity to challenges such as stress or excessive temperatures.

Since it is not yet possible to fully control all these factors, preventing reproductive issues and implementing corrective actions has therefore become essential. This requires considering multiple factors, such as farm management practices, environmental conditions, nutrition, and the overall health status of the farm.

Adisseo focus on reproductive performance improvement

Adisseo have focused on the improvement of reproductive performances of the sows by delivering solutions focusing on precise issues sows were facing during gestation and lactation.

  • Enhanced the antioxidant capacity of the sows and her offspring
  • Decreases the inflammatory processes during the gestation
  • Reduces pre-weaning mortality
  • Prevent disrupting reproductive processes linked with the presence of mycotoxins in the feed

Key figures

10–12%

Sows typically lose about 10–12% of their body weight during the lactation period, due to the energy demands of milk production.

200%

Sows use the equivalent of 200% of their body weight per year to produce milk.

5 to 10%

5 to 10% reduction in conception rates can be observed in sows exposed to levels of zearalenone above 0.1 ppm .

Why choose our solutions?

At Adisseo, we offer nutritional strategies designed to help manage challenges that may negatively affect reproductive performance during gestation and lactation.

  • Our mycotoxin management solution, Unike Plus®, contributes to reducing the impact of mycotoxins, which can interfere with animal health and reproductive function.
  • To support feed intake during these critical periods, Krave®, our palatability enhancer for sows, helps promote consistent consumption—an important factor for sustaining milk production, which directly influences piglet viability in the farrowing unit.
  • Additionally, nutritional tools such as Selisseo®, FRA C12, and Adimix® Precision are part of our approach to support animal resilience, particularly under oxidative and inflammatory stress conditions associated with reproduction.

By combining targeted solutions with technical expertise, Adisseo helps producers address key reproductive challenges with confidence, while supporting sow well-being and overall herd management.

Contact us today to learn how our reproductive support solutions can be integrated into your swine nutrition program.
